Sergey Tanin gained widespread recognition in Europe after the Swiss television documentary about his life aired. His international career took off in 2018 when he became a laureate and the Audience Prizewinner at the Géza Anda Competition in Zurich. Tanin’s relationship with Switzerland grew through performances at venues like Stadtcasino Basel and the Tonhalle Zürich. In 2023, to mark Sergei Rachmaninoff's 150th birthday, Tanin's artistic focus on the composer led to his involvement in the documentary "My Rachmaninoff" produced by 3Sat. In 2025, he was a prizewinner of the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels.
Tanin has given recitals in renowned concert halls, such as Salle Gaveau Paris, the Mariinsky Concert Hall, Sall Molière Lyon, and the Great Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. He has played at international festivals, such as the Beethoven fest Bonn, Bregenzer Festspiele, the Kissinger Sommer, Musikdorf Ernen and many more. In 2020, Tanin won the First Prize and Audience Award at Kissinger KlavierOlymp and in 2021 he was invited to play as a soloist with the Bamberger Symphoniker under Jakub Hruša.
